CHAMPIONSHIP FREESTYLE DIVISIONS (1A and Open)

The rules and judging system for the 1a and Open Divisions for the Utah State Yoyo Contest follow those set forth by The IYYL and are consistent with the National Yo-Yo Contest and World Yo-Yo Contest. For our Utah State Contest, Preliminaries are 1-minute long set up to music of the players choice. Finals are 2 minutes long set up to music of players choice. Both songs must be cut and uploaded, clarifying which is for Prelim and Finals. Players entering the Championship division may not enter in the Novice Division, but may compete in the Sports ladder. Players may compete in both Open and 1A. More information about the scoring structure can be found at the IYYL website.

NOVICE OPEN DIVISION

The Novice Open division is intended for players beginning their freestyle career. Novice Freestyles using any style of yoyo (1A through 5A) are 1-minute long set to music of the player’s choice. Any style of yo-yo play is permitted in the Novice Open division. Players entering the Novice Open division may not enter any Championship Division.

SPORT LADDER

The Sport Ladder is open to all players. Like last year, Sport Ladder will be split into two divisions:

Sport Ladder Pro, for players also competing in a Championship Division.
Sport Ladder Classic, for players not competing in a Championship Division.

Awards are given to the top performer as well as an overall winner for the Ladder. Competitors complete as much as they can of the Sport Ladder. We will be using the two attempts per trick, three misses retires format. The Sports Ladder Trick List can be found here.
