The Midwest Regional Yo-Yo Championships is steeped in a rich history. Over the years we have been at 3 different venues, and had many great champions perform on our stage.
In 2002 we found a home at the Mall of America and each year in June the best players are throwing at center stage.
It was a FIXED AXLE only contest the first year, as the AYYA membership voted back then to make TRANSAXLES be in their own division. If someone wanted to use a transaxle yo-yo they would be in their own division against anyone else using a transaxle. We had no one request it.
• Obviously since that date major changes in technology and trick design have occurred to make transaxles more popular and accepted at all contests. Fixed axles are still around, but greatly out-numbered in a contest.
The links along the top of this page, connect you to the history of the MWR by year, you can find:
• A short write up of each event.
• The names and rankings for all the players who competed.
• Trick list for each year to see how it has changed.
• Pictures of the competitors and crowd
It is fun to find some of the players who have been coming back for years to see how they have changed in appearance, and progressed in skill and rankings from year to year.
The contest sure has evolved from its humble beginnings back in 1998.
