2012

The 2012 Midwest Regional event was held on Saturday, June 23, at the Mall of America. In total, we had 67 competitors playing in all divisions. There is a lot of new players entering the 1A division and the Jr 1A was highly sought after, the region is really growing fast.

The 1 minute freestyles were needed to bring the pool of players down from 39 to 14. We had 1 player seeded from the Minnesota state contest. In the end we used 14 players to freestyle.

4A was exciting this year, especially if you liked flying yo-yos. High throws, and bouncing yo-yos all around the rotunda!

The Jr 1A was a new division for the 2012 MWR contest. It consisted of players 14 years and younger who chose the more beginner aspect of freestyle. No seeds to the National yo-yo contest are awarded for this division.

Sport Ladder: We continued the method of giving players a bit more opportunity to show what they could do. They were given TWO tries at each trick, scoring either 5 or 3 points. they were retired from the ladder if they had two zeros.

Since we opened the door to a Jr 1A freestyle division, it took many of the beginner players who would normally play in the ladder division up to the freestyle. So we had less players in the ladder.
